High Point Highlights and New Blues in the Shop

  Hi all!  I made a super quick trip to High Point for the furniture and accessories show.  I couldn't bare to miss it, even if I was only able to go for a day and a half.  I can never stay away!

This image is from my absolute favorite room at Wesley Hall...

The trends I saw included a continuation of fresh, clean colors, but with some earth tones mixed in, particularly in butterscotch (a fave of mine) and darker greens, going to olive.  Here are random shots of things that caught my eye...


Leather and lucite bench?  Yes please!

Painted wood tile flooring -- to die for.

I always stop to stare at botanicals, and a rabbit always gets me, too...

This tray is petrified wood.  How I would love this in my house...

Speaking of wood, this live edge coffee table had my thumbs up...

Good chairs always make my heart race.  Perhaps sad, but true! ;-)

This ghost chair knocked my socks off...

The mix of textures and styles in this setting really appealed...

I think one of the coolest things this market was these coffee and end tables, done in a custom Pantone combination (you can pick any three colors you want),  and sealed with an almost indestructible finish.  I would mix these in any traditional setting...

I could have stayed in High Point all week, but not doable this time around.  But a bit of time is better than none.  Personally, I think it's critical in this industry to see and feel what's new and next. 

And for new and next, I want to show you two items I'm loving in the shop.  A stunning blue and white, coral and seashell motif soap dish, and cobalt blue majolica in the cabbage pattern.  There is a limited quantity of each, so don't wait, my blue and white peeps!!

High Point Mood Board

This past weekend, I was at my Disney World equivalent -- High Point furniture market in High Point, North Carolina.  If you follow me on Instagram (@6Wilson) you may have seen many of the gorgeous pieces I drooled over. 

I thought it would be fun to do a mood board with some of the things I didn't show.  I was inspired by the light fixture and the navy blue ceiling of the showroom it was hanging in.  To create this casual living room, I just pulled photos I had taken, and viola, some of them really made sense together...

Lighting -- Inspiration from High Point

There is nothing like High Point market for inspiration.  It's like the Olympics of furniture and accessories.  Seriously.  And, trust me if you've never been, you feel the exhaustion of an athlete at the end of the day.

For me this market, lighting was really my thing.  Couldn't get enough of it.  Here's a look at what I saw, covering a wide range of styles...

Clean, fresh colors were a theme, but there were so many looks vying for attention, that I can't say any one style won out.

Exposed bulbs were everywhere.  I tend to like most of them, but I have to wonder if they would be harsh on the eyes after a while.

Industrial influences were everywhere, too. 

Lately, I've had a major crush on classic blue and white, so these really appealed to me...

The vase and urn on the left, below, would make great lamp bases, so I included them :)

With brass making a major comeback,  I saw it in just about every style.  Love it.  And since I'm sure you're dying to know what I would choose for myself, well, I'll take all three below, please.

This sconce is called the door-knocker.  It was so substantial and impressive...

There was no shortage of detail anywhere...

And the detail in this equestrian-inspired chandelier was just fantastic...

That's pretty much a wrap on lighting, edited down from a million pictures.  I think it's fun to see what's showing, no matter what your style.  And, I believe, exposure helps us define what we really love, don't you think?

High Point Highlight: Lavender Love

Could you fall in love with lavender?  I never really had a thing for it, until I went to High Point and saw it in a whole new light.  On trend but always classic, lavender is one of the new "it" colors.  Check out these inspiration images, and maybe you will swoon, too.

My favorite interpretations were in the brilliantly done Lillian August showroom (the next several shots).  This sofa is heaven to me...

I. want. these. pillows.  And, the sofa too.

The velvet and the orchid.  Mmm Mm.

Could this be any more me?  Uh, no...

This one was more modern and just gorgeous...

Lillian August was my favorite showroom for color inspiration and style.  Just breathtaking.

Duralee put on a great lavender love story, too.  The next to are from the Duralee showroom...

Okay, I couldn't resist this guy on the street.  Never really figured out why he was there.

High Point Highlight: Lighting

Oh, there is nothing like lighting to create mood in a room.  On a dimmer, it's magic in a fixture.  Whether you like yours sleek or dripping in crystals, you gotta consider something fabulous for your space.

At High Point furniture market last week, lighting inspiration was everywhere.  I'm not going to identify each manufacturer, but feel free to email me if you have questions on anything. (Check out the suspended daybed in the showroom above.  High Point really is incredible...)  When I was shopping around, I couldn't help but think of a couple of my favorite bloggers when I saw certain fixtures.

 Here are a couple for Abby at A Delightful Design.  Modern, classic, edgy all at once...

 Drum shades and shapes still prevail on the market...

Lots of cut metal overlays in both gold and silver finishes...

The linen shade on this one was beautiful...

I couldn't help but think of Nita at A Mod Vintage Life with these two.  I guess because they are vintage more than anything.  Wouldn't this be a great chandelier in a breakfast nook?

Or this one over the island of an avid cook with vintage flair?

This one I'm actually presenting to a client tomorrow.  I want it to hang over a creamy pub table and upholstered barstools in the Nantucket-inspired family/pool room of an antique colonial.  (There second home is on the island, and they want a bit of that vibe).  This little pendant is blown glass and is nicknamed "jellyfish" by the showroom folks.  Love it.  Hope she will!

Steve at An Urban Cottage, I couldn't help but think of you in this particular showroom.  Everything was repurposed into some fantastic looking pieces.  These lamps were something else in person, and the table they were on was incredibly creative...

On blogs and elsewhere we see a lot of modern happening, but classic and traditional will always be fresh.  Here are some pieces that I thought were super pretty...

Great detail on this chandelier, with hand applied quartz beads...

This one would be stunning over the island of a formal kitchen.  I've got a crush on this...

Changing gears, here's a rope-wrapped chandelier that would look great over a highly distressed white table surrounded by industrial looking chairs.  Of course, having the french doors open to the ocean might help the look :)

These are just fun.  Really fun...

More simple ? (haha)

 

 Now, something for me.  These two wall fixtures are different in size and statement, but they are both. so. me.
