Blue and White Inspiration with a Bit of Wood

It's time for me to get some inspiration for a family room redo.  It's the last room on our first floor to get some serious attention, and that's going to change this spring.  I'll show the room as it is now in another post, but here are some spaces that convey the feel I want the room to have...

I know this is a bedroom, above, but I love how it makes me feel.  I connect with it, and I want to have that connection with my new family room.    The only things I know for sure is that I want blues mixed with creams and wood.


This chair detailing slays me, it's so beautiful.  I believe the fabric is Cowtan & Tout, and I know that I must have either a window pane pattern like this one, or a check of some sort.

I love the wood mixed with the blue in the room below.  In another home, I would do blue and white in a nano-second,  but my home is in the woods, and doesn't have bright light, especially the family room.  What would white do in that room?  Look cold and shadowy.  Using white walls and furniture, in this designer's opinion, demands a lot of natural light.

I'm after a causal elegant vibe, much like the rest of the first floor.  Above is a bit too dressy, overall.  This is another gage on the feeling I'm going for...

I just adore this wallpaper and the mood it gives.  While wallpaper is not in the budget, I may do some on the back of my one bookcase.  We'll see how it all shakes out when the fabrics are decided.

Another element I know for sure -- baskets.  I love the texture and earthiness they bring to a home. They are just timeless.

One of the reasons I'm starting to think about the details of this project is that I will probably do the One Room Challenge link up this spring over at Linda's blog, Calling it Home.  Not only do I need a plan, but I need to get my husband to do a few things with me, too, so planning is key.

Well, these snowy New England days of late have given me the opportunity to slow down and give the family room some thought.  Let's hope for a few more snow days so I can at least think about this project, even if I'm saving starting it for the spring ;-)

High Point Highlights and New Blues in the Shop

  Hi all!  I made a super quick trip to High Point for the furniture and accessories show.  I couldn't bare to miss it, even if I was only able to go for a day and a half.  I can never stay away!

This image is from my absolute favorite room at Wesley Hall...

The trends I saw included a continuation of fresh, clean colors, but with some earth tones mixed in, particularly in butterscotch (a fave of mine) and darker greens, going to olive.  Here are random shots of things that caught my eye...


Leather and lucite bench?  Yes please!

Painted wood tile flooring -- to die for.

I always stop to stare at botanicals, and a rabbit always gets me, too...

This tray is petrified wood.  How I would love this in my house...

Speaking of wood, this live edge coffee table had my thumbs up...

Good chairs always make my heart race.  Perhaps sad, but true! ;-)

This ghost chair knocked my socks off...

The mix of textures and styles in this setting really appealed...

I think one of the coolest things this market was these coffee and end tables, done in a custom Pantone combination (you can pick any three colors you want),  and sealed with an almost indestructible finish.  I would mix these in any traditional setting...

I could have stayed in High Point all week, but not doable this time around.  But a bit of time is better than none.  Personally, I think it's critical in this industry to see and feel what's new and next. 

And for new and next, I want to show you two items I'm loving in the shop.  A stunning blue and white, coral and seashell motif soap dish, and cobalt blue majolica in the cabbage pattern.  There is a limited quantity of each, so don't wait, my blue and white peeps!!

Blue and White and Chinoiserie, plus More Trays are In, Too!!

My love affair with blue and white is getting a bit out of control.  But then, can you really love it too much?   And do you know what's the funniest thing?  I don't own any!  Aside from my Lenox ivory china with a cobalt rim from my wedding days (which I still love), and a few pieces of cobalt pottery, nope, nada, I own none of it.  But that's going to change very soon.

In the meantime, I will continue to bring it to you.  Check out these gorgeous babies...

 I heard you gasp.  Yes indeed.  Stunners.  They are vintage Doulton Burslem in the Madras pattern.  There are three of them, and how gorgeous they would be on a wall.  Maybe around a gold mirror, or my preference would be with something a bit more casual. You can find them in the shop.

 And it those weren't enough, hold on, because I have the platter, too!  Crazy beautiful not only for its pattern, but you can tell it's old because it isn't assembly line perfect.  When I saw it at the dealer I bought it from, I eyed the place to make sure I didn't have to take anyone out if they were going near it.  No joke.

(It doesn't come with the egg, you have to get your own, but I put it there to give you size perspective ;-).   The size is 17" x 14".  You can see more of this platter here.

Visualizing Spring at 6 Wilson!

Oh man it's been a lonngggggggg winter thus far, wouldn't you agree?  Way too much snow and cold.  So, I decided to bring a little Spring to 6 Wilson on this rare, sunny 50 degree day, before the deep freeze comes again next week.

Each of these happy linen pillows has a gorgeous cobalt blue fabric on the back, and with all the color, they are the perfect accent for a winter weary home, don't you think?

Accent pillows like these don't need to match your decor -- they are meant to be little pieces of jewelery to add pop to the outfit that is... your room!! 

I used the flowers I bought today to style this vintage Lubeck pitcher, too...

There is a vintage wash basin in this pattern, as well (now in the shop), which I think would look AMAZING on a spring table with tulips planted in it.  How gorgeous would this be a centerpiece on Easter? 

The wash basin/bowl, is 14"x5" so it's a whole LOT of style.  Maybe on your coffee table?  I think blue and white is like jeans -- goes with everything.

And on the blue and white theme, these Spode plates below are now in the shop, too.  Perfection for a gorgeous salad on top of a white dinner plate (or maybe a colored dinner plate, like pink or green!  Ahh!)

So there you have my suggestions for adding some spring fling to your home!  Take that, Old Man Winter!

My New Favorite Blue and White Room

Here's my new favorite blue and white image.  It made me gasp when I saw it on Pinterest.

 The texture of the navy grasscloth and its rich color - to.die.  The warmth of the dark wood chest? Yum and just enough to balance the weight of the bed.  And that glossy navy bed - are you kidding me? Soooo gorgeous. My style in a nutshell.  #6WilsonStyle, too.

You know what I would add if it were mine?  This slipcovered chair and pillow.

I'm a sucker for classics.  I'm going to be looking for some blue and white fabric for new family room drapes in the near future.  I'll share with you what I find.  I can't live without a blue room any longer.  The time has come.  Stay tuned.

Blue and White Christmas Decorating

  I have always loved blue and white, but I've never really used it until recently.  When I saw that The Pink Pagoda was having a blue and white bash today, I thought it would be a great time to make the Christmas arrangement I was planning on, in a Homegoods pot I had picked up a while back.

Of course once I did the arrangement, I needed a place to put it, so I gathered the blue and white china from 6 Wilson (available here), along with a new blue and white table runner (available here) and I put together a tablescape (one of my all time favorite things to do.)

 I will be using my arrangement for the entire season, and since it looks wintery, probably into January. 

 So that's it, short and simple today.  I'm off to go through all the links at Pink Pagoda and no doubt drool over all the gorgeousness.  Join me there!!
