A Teenage Boy's Room

Teenage boys.  Hmmmm.  Decorating their bedrooms, trying to make them personal but not young, is tricky, I think.  But fun, too.

Here's one board for my client's 14 year old son, who had the bed and night table, but needed the rest.  I'm playing around with a few different options before I present it, so there will be another board to show soon.  My client wanted his son to be able to have a say, so options it is!

This young guy is a sports and basketball fan, so I found the cool artwork on Etsy, and I am soooo loving the baseball mitt inspired desk chair.   Next to the roman shade is the trim I'm thinking will be a great accent down the sides and along the bottom.

The next version of this room will put more focus on the bedding, less on the rug.  It's fun to play with pattern and scale in a space.  Remember, you can mix lots of patterns, but make one the large, dominant pattern (here it's the rug), and then vary the rest.  A space is never happy when the scales of patterns compete.

Beautiful Bedrooms

Okay, so the older I get, the more I decorate in my head, rather than applying the energy and time required to make changes in my own house.  Maybe it's because I decorate and design every day in a design showroom, or maybe it's because I run my teenagers around instead of working on my house.  Whatever the reason, I've found myself thinking about the state of my bedroom tonight, which leads me to this post.

I love beautiful bedrooms.  My own could use some attention, and I find the following completely inspiring, for different reasons, as I redo my room in my head.  Again.  Let's look...

I just found this bedroom on Pinterest, and I must be drawn to it, because I had an image of just that chest and mirror on my black and white post the other day!  It must be the New England winter that's making me crave a room like this of my own...

And these charcoal pillows from 6 Wilson plumped up on it!!

I think the dark charcoal background would be a great balance across the room to the bed  frame, and the texture, well, it just sings in that cozy space.

I've so been in the mood for cozy.  It's winter.   And I can just see a fire roaring in the fireplace on the other wall in this room.  Oh, and I would be lazing there, with a hot toddy (my winter favorite) and a red plaid throw wrapped around me.  What about you?  Need some cozy?

Before and After: Orange Bedroom Progress

Here's a peek at what's been going on in my daughter's bedroom makeover.  We still have furniture to paint, slipcovers to make, and lighting to install.  (So it's been moving at a snail's pace for 6 months...I've still got a couple of years until college!)  But, here's where I'm at...

My girl loves orange like here mama, so her totally blue room...

Has been striped and fabric'd in a bit of modern orange...

These phone pictures are pretty crappy, but it gives you an idea of what's going on with the room.  I need to finish the bedding, too.

Before and After: Master Bedroom and Yellow and Gray Ikat

The bathroom makeover from this post is in the same house as the master bedroom I'm working on in this before and after:

My clients wanted to update the bedroom, keeping all the furniture except the bed.  They were tired of the overly traditional window treatments and the bright yellow.  There was a four-poster bed in here before we moved in the new one, more befitting their personalities...

The walls are Ben Moore HC Clarksville Gray, which, depending on the light, looks gray or green-gray.  It's very soothing and calm.

There's artwork and accessories still to do, but I'm happy with the way it's coming along.  Now, the old chair, that was once in the living room and was not quite perfect for the bedroom, now feels like we planned the whole room around it!

Funny how that works out!
